Your Feedback

We try to help our community in any way that we can.  Below is a list of recent missions that we have accomplished for those in and around Austin, Texas.

Repair/Rebuild:

One recent mission was to help an elderly woman with a few household repairs.

Background: She is 71 and lives alone in a 2-story home built in the 1960's. She lost her husband 3 years earlier when he passed away due to cancer. Since then, she has had difficulty keeping up with the repairs in the home and to this day, remains employed full time as a substitute teacher.

Here is the work we did in her home:

1) Prior to our arrival, she did not have a working toilet or bathroom sink on the first floor. She was forced to carry a pail of water from the only working sink in the house, her kitchen sink, to her toilet to "flush" it. We arranged for a plumber to fix the downstairs sink and toilet for her.

2) Unbeknownst to her, she had a very serious gas leak coming from the oven in her home. We were told by the man who fixed it for her that the gas leak was bad enough for her health as it was with her breathing it, but that had anyone used a lighter near the oven, or if she had tried to use it herself, the home could easily have caught on fire.

3) We helped clean and organize the downstairs of her home, repainting, putting in new flooring in the kitchen, and even arranged (with her blessing) for the donation of her piano to another nearby family, the donation of her kitchen table (as she had another in the dining area), the donation of a microwave, and several dishes to a nearby Salvation Army. What a way to spread the charity around!

She stated that she felt like her home was inviting and no longer "depressing". Since our departure, she has had guests over for the first time in over 3 years!!!

Mission Accomplished!

Care packages:

Erika and Stephanie sent a care package valued at over $80 in goodies for a new Army recruit.

We support our troops!

Volunteering through other projects and Organizations:

Erika, Erick, Alexandria, and Emma volunteered time at a local church to help them build a playground structure for the kids. The project was through a local Girl Scout who was trying to make a difference in her community!

Go Joanne!

Support for Hospital Patients:

Erick took his team out to an elderly woman's home who has been suffering from cancer for 6 years. He completely revamped her outside patio with flowers and beautiful foliage and created a beautiful natural, calming place to relax.

Alexandria and Emma also made decorations and strung them around to welcome her back home from the hospital.

Way to help, guys!

Easter Drives:

On Easter Sunday 2008, we took an Easter basket full of canned foods and eggs full of money to a homeless woman we met earlier in the week. She lives in the dumpster area of South 1st Street by the HEB.
We also took tons of toys and puzzles and passed them out to kids and families on the East side, near the ACC Eastview campus.

For Easter 2009, we stuffed 75 Easter Baskets full of activity books, cards, crayons, and small toys (no candy) to deliver to the Dell Children's Hospital! We furnished enough baskets for SIX units of kids!

Happy Easter everyone!
